The upper reaches of this steeply sloping property offer panoramic views over the city. To make the most of the views, architect Annette Steenkamp designed a multi-level home, with the living area leading to a lawned terrace and swimming pool. To elevate the lawn area to the required level, a +- 3,7 M high retaining wall was built by the main contractor and then filled and lawned. A large rock was placed on the fill to provide interest. To elevate the “lap” pool to the same level, our structural engineer designed a gunite pool, suspended over brick retaining walls, with rimflow edge on one long side, its holding tank/ channel cantilevered off the main pool structure. Three sides of the pool are finished with a timber deck living area. The interior of the pool is finished with grey ceramic mozaic tiles at waterline and standard charcoal marble plaster. The rimflow reticulation includes two feature stainless steel water sheet returns above waterline. |
