Set on the slopes of Table Mountain, with a panoramic view over the city bowl this site called for innovative design. The dramatic incline and lack of space determined that the pool is built on pylons and partly on top of the existing garage, the walls of the pool being self-supporting. the living area around the pool was formed by attaching a wooden deck to the pool structure. Excavation for the footings exposed decomposed rock, determining that the footings for the pool were gunited to a depth of three meters below the pool base. The sidewall of the pool was raised a meter to retain the garden above the pool, resulting in a 5 meter high gunite structure! The pool is finished with a tile coping, imported ceramic mosaics at waterline and a marble plaster interior. |
