CONSTRUCTION OF POOL
POOL OF THE YEAR: 1997

To create a level living area in front of the house on this dramatically sloping site, a nine meter high retaining wall was built and the area filled up to the house. Prior to doing the landfill, Suburban Pools established six gunite pylons into virgin soil. As the area was filled, the pylons were gunited to height of seven meters. The 55 sq. m gunite pool structure was then built on top of the pylons, including a rimflow water feature channel and filter platform, cantilevered off the pool base, and the self supporting paved deck cantilevered off the pool walls. The pool setting is breathtaking as the pool appears to hang on the edge of a cliff, its white tile surround accentuated by the dramatic Table Mountain backdrop. The pool interior is finished in white fibreglass lining.
